A former airplane worker asked the transport minister to hire old Air Namibia staff for the planned new airline. Vaino Hangula spoke up as a member of parliament from the Affirmative Repositioning party. He wants Minister Veikko Nekundi to bring back workers who lost their jobs when Air Namibia closed in 2021. The airline shut down after years of money problems left it deep in debt.
The government aims to launch a fresh national carrier before December 2026. Hangula claims he and other former employees have special skills that nobody else in Namibia offers. He told officials these workers should help research, develop, establish, and run the upcoming airline. Their experience makes them perfect candidates for the new operation. The lawmaker insisted that old Air Namibia staff deserve the first chance at these positions. He made these points during his first speech as an elected official.
