Exhausted Pedri sidelined to recharge for Brugge

Barcelona midfielder Pedri will miss the match against Elche on Sunday after exhaustion forced his red card exit from the recent Clasico defeat to Real Madrid. The Spanish international has appeared in 17 consecutive matches this season across all competitions, accumulating 1,400 minutes of the possible 1,530 available.

Spanish newspaper AS reports the Canary Islands native showed fatigue and frustration in recent weeks despite strong performances for Spain against Georgia and Bulgaria. His absence provides time for a specialized training program before the Champions League fixture against Club Brugge.

Manager Hans Flick faces limited replacement options among De Jong, Casado, Bernal, Firmin, and young Drew. None possesses Pedri's ability to connect play between lines, which may require tactical adjustments from the coach.

The 22-year-old midfielder serves as both engine and tactical leader for the team. His brief rest period allows him to recover ahead of upcoming competitions.
