FAB brings Jaywan debit card to UAE customers

The UAE basically just told Visa and Mastercard they're not needed at home, and honestly, it's about time. First Abu Dhabi Bank rolled out the Jaywan Debit Card, a domestically issued payment card managed by Al Etihad Payments and backed by the Central Bank of the UAE, currently live for local transactions.

Shoppers can swipe at local merchants, handle online purchases on UAE-based platforms, and pull cash from ATMs nationwide. The whole thing plugs directly into FAB's mobile app for tracking spending and managing accounts. Security-wise, it runs 3D Secure verification alongside Chip and PIN, and wallet tokenisation means you can load it onto digital wallets for contactless payments.

Futoon Al Mazrouei, who heads personal and business banking at FAB, framed the card as a building block for stronger domestic payment rails. Al Etihad Payments CPO Andrea Ciancetti called it a milestone for sovereign local transactions. Getting your hands on one requires an eligible FAB account, applied for through the app or a branch.
