Police captured two men accused of running a fake money scam that targeted online sellers in Harare. Agrippa Chivhenge and Edious Rungano were arrested at a rented house in Marlborough after a search lasting nearly two years. Authorities say the pair used bundles of worthless old Zimbabwe dollar notes topped with a single US bill to trick people into handing over goods.
Over a hundred victims have already come to the police station to identify the suspects since their arrest. The scheme gained public notice last October after the men allegedly scammed a farmer out of hundreds of chickens using the same method. They face numerous fraud charges for acquiring phones, laptops, and other items, with more cases likely as the investigation continues. A court appearance is scheduled.
