A fake healer from Kenya got busted for an expired visa and scams. Henry Odour Mwedia, a forty-eight-year-old Kenyan national, was fined three hundred dollars in Bulawayo after pleading guilty to immigration charges. Magistrate Themba Chimiso handed down the sentence, with a four-month jail term if Mwedia fails to pay by the end of next year. The court heard he entered Zimbabwe on December eleventh last year with a thirty-day permit, but stayed for eleven months.
Prosecutor Rumbidzai Gwishiri said Mwedia operated under the fake name Dr MO Jomo, posing as a traditional healer. He allegedly claimed to cure diseases like cancer and diabetes, remove bad luck, and reconcile lost lovers. Gwishiri argued he deliberately exploited desperate residents, calling him a cunning danger to society. An immigration compliance team acted on a tip and arrested him at a city center flat on December 15th. The magistrate considered his guilty plea as a mitigating factor.
