Fernandes Turns Down Mega Cash to Stay at Man United

Bruno Fernandes turned down a massive offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal to stay at Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder received a 100 million pound bid and weekly wages of 700,000 pounds from the Middle Eastern team. Al-Hilal's president contacted Fernandes about one month ago to discuss the potential move. Manchester United finished their worst season ever with 15th place and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. The team won just one league game against quality opponents since February.

Fernandes talked with coach Ruben Amorim about the Saudi offer during recent discussions. The manager convinced the captain to remain with the struggling English club instead of leaving. United officials told Fernandes they would only sell him if he wanted to go somewhere else. The player discussed the decision with his wife and family before making his final choice. He wants to continue playing at the highest level against top competition around Europe.

The 30-year-old midfielder led Manchester United in both goals and assists during the disappointing campaign. Fernandes scored 19 goals and created 19 assists across all competitions for his team. He needs just two more goals to reach 100 career strikes since joining English football. The captain has won the League Cup and FA Cup with United during his time there. Fernandes also finished as Europa League top scorer twice despite losing both finals.
