FICCI pushes for tougher laws to crush cartels and fix fair play

Business leaders examined competition regulations during a conference organized by the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The gathering addressed Bangladesh Competition Commission operations and potential legal modifications. Competition Commission Chairperson AHM Ahsan emphasized how the 2012 legislation supports free-market principles by preventing cartels and protecting consumers. Chamber President Zaved Akhtar affirmed support for balanced regulations that promote fair competition without restricting business development.

The chamber represents 200 multinational corporations spanning 21 economic sectors across 35 nations. Officials explored enforcement strategies and regulatory improvements during the consultation. Executive Director TIM Nurul Kabir facilitated discussions between commission representatives and member companies. Participants shared perspectives on implementing existing laws while considering amendments that balance industry needs with consumer protection requirements.
