FIFA's new Trionda spy ball to police 2026 World Cup

FIFA unveiled the Trionda as the official match ball for the 2026 World Cup on Saturday. Adidas designed the sphere with four geometric panels in red, green, and blue to honor the three host nations of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The Spanish name translates to "Three Waves" and features symbols representing each country, including a maple leaf, an eagle, and a star.

The ball features an advanced sensor chip operating at 500 Hz, which transmits precise movement data to the Video Assistant Referee system in real-time. Deep panel edges enhance aerodynamic stability, and prominent surface icons improve control in wet conditions. FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the design as a magnificent representation of unity among the host nations.

The tournament draw ceremony will take place on December 5, 2025, in Washington, as qualifying teams emerge through international matches in October and November. The 2026 World Cup marks the first edition hosted by three countries simultaneously. Golden accents on the ball reflect the prestige of the global competition.
