Fireboy DML Dropped Lamp Sales for Music Fame

Fireboy DML almost became a street vendor before music stardom came his way. The afrobeats singer graduated college but found himself selling pepper soup at a local joint. He planned to switch careers and sell rechargeable lamps under Ajah Bridge in Lagos when rapper Olamide signed him to YBNL Nation in 2018.

The Peru hitmaker shared this story during a recent episode of 90s Baby Show in London. He thought selling lamps seemed more respectable than his food service job. His parents never knew about these early struggles before his music breakthrough. Fireboy mentioned that Olamide actually signed him through WhatsApp messages.

His career took off after his song "Jealous" appeared on the YBNL Mafia Family collaborative album. The following year, he released his first studio album, "Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps," which established him as a star. The artist, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, went from considering street sales to international recognition within a short time.
