Herdsmen Storm 50 Benue Villages As Locals Flee

Armed herdsmen forced people from 50 communities across Benue State. The attacks hit villages in 25 council wards spanning five local areas. Gwer West suffered the most, with all 15 council wards affected at different times. The Benue State Emergency Management Agency shared this data just before new attacks happened in Ukum, Logo, Otukpo, and Gwer East areas.

Guma lost communities in six council wards to these raiders. Gwer East saw people fleeing from Mbalom ward for safety. Even Makurdi, the state capital, had three communities taken over. The Kwande area lost several villages in Moon and Anwase wards. SEMA officer Terna Ager said many more places face similar problems.

Retired prison boss Iorbee Ihagh said his home area in Moon ward stands empty after years of attacks. Markets, health centers, and schools lie in ruins. He asked the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency because of rising danger. Thousands live in 13 official camps or with relatives. Some people have stayed in these camps for over eight years with little chance of going home.
