Firefighters save Weija factory, avert massive disaster

Ghana National Fire Service crews prevented catastrophic damage at Fharkieh Plastic and Packaging Company Limited after battling intense flames that engulfed the Weija Junction facility. Eight engines from stations across Accra converged on the scene alongside municipal water tankers, deploying foam and sustained cooling techniques to halt the blaze's advance toward a church and residential structures. One firefighter received hospital treatment for ear burns before returning to duty.

Flames consumed the machine section and raw materials storage areas while responders managed to preserve several other buildings on the property. Personnel contained the spread within six hours of arrival and achieved full extinguishment before noon. The service credited coordinated tactics and external support from Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Weija Assembly, and police forces for limiting what could have become widespread destruction across the industrial zone.
