Five held in Busoga East over boy’s kidnap, murder

Authorities in Uganda's Busoga East region detained five individuals following the kidnapping and killing of a six-year-old Loy Taaka from Buwembula village in Bugiri district. Police apprehended Allan Waiswa, the victim's nephew, after the child vanished on November 1 and his caretaker, Moses Okello, reported the disappearance.

Waiswa admitted to orchestrating the abduction with four accomplices, Geoffrey Baliraine, Umar Osogoli, Isaac Mulondo, and a woman named Phiona, expecting to collect 50 million shillings from Okello, whom they considered wealthy and caring. The group contacted Okello through various phones demanding payment, but Waiswa killed the boy when investigators began closing in and buried him behind his residence.

Detectives recovered the decomposing remains for identification by Okello before transferring them to Bugiri Hospital mortuary for examination. Regional police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed officers collected evidence from the location while mental health evaluations determined all suspects were competent to face charges.
