Former Arkane head blames Game Pass model for job losses and industry risks

Game industry veterans are pointing fingers at Microsoft after the company fired over 9,000 Xbox workers. Raphael Colantonio used to run Arkane Studios before Microsoft bought it. He says Game Pass subscription service is wrecking the video game business. The former studio boss claims Microsoft loses tons of money keeping Game Pass cheap. He thinks the tech giant wants to crush all competitors with this losing strategy.

Colantonio warns gamers about what happens next if Microsoft wins this battle. He believes games will become terrible and subscription prices will skyrocket. The gaming expert says Microsoft has been lying about Game Pass not hurting game sales. Market analyst Rhys Elliott agrees that Microsoft picked the wrong approach. He points out that people spend way more time playing games than watching movies or listening to music.

The studio founder thinks Game Pass might work if it focused on old games instead. Sony takes this smarter approach with PlayStation Plus by adding games months after release. Microsoft still puts brand new games on Game Pass the same day they launch. This strategy has attracted only 35 million subscribers despite having huge franchises like Call of Duty. Colantonio runs WolfEye Studios and has criticized Microsoft before when they shut down his old company.
