Former NNPCL CFO Denies Fraud Arrest Claims, Says He Voluntarily Appeared

A former top financial officer at Nigeria's state oil company has denied reports about his arrest. Alhaji Umar Ajiyia Isa served as Chief Finance Officer at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited before leaving his position. Media reports claimed police arrested him Monday for financial crimes. Isa says these reports spread false information about what happened. He wants people to know the truth about his meeting with investigators.

The former executive says he went to meet with Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officers on his own. No one forced him to come or arrested him at his home or office. Investigators wanted to ask questions about money transactions at two oil refineries. The case involves claims about 7.2 billion dollars at facilities in Warri and Port Harcourt. Isa answered their questions and returned home the same day.

Isa believes someone wants to damage his good name through false stories. He worked many years at the petroleum company without anyone accusing him of stealing money. His record shows honest service during his entire career at the organization. The former officer says he left his job with his reputation clean. He remains ready to meet with investigators whenever they call him again.
