Former NPP MP commends government for gains in cedi exchange rate

A former ruling party lawmaker shocked everyone when he praised his political opponents for fixing Ghana's money problems. Andy Appiah-Kubi used to represent Asante Akim for the New Patriotic Party before losing his seat. The ex-politician went on Starr FM radio and gave credit where credit was due. He told listeners that the National Democratic Congress government had done something amazing with the economy. Appiah-Kubi said ordinary people could feel the difference when they went to exchange money.

The cedi became much stronger against foreign money during the past six months. Currency traders watched the exchange rate improve from around 15 cedis per dollar down to just 12 cedis. Appiah-Kubi admitted that regular Ghanaians were getting better deals when they needed foreign cash. He confessed that his former party had failed to deliver similar results. The honest politician said Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta should have achieved these gains but never managed to do it.

Appiah-Kubi begged the new government to keep the good times rolling for everyone. He worried that the currency gains might disappear just as quickly as they came. The former MP promised to help the opposition party if they asked for his assistance. He explained that Ghana mattered more than any single political party. Appiah-Kubi declared that all citizens deserved to feel safe and comfortable regardless of which party controlled the government.
