Four arrested for the murder of St John’s security guard

Police in Mzuzu arrested a woman, her two children and a fourth suspect for killing security guard Gerald Chirwa last month. Authorities charged Margaret Zimba, 44, along with her son Labson Chirwa, 18, daughter Chikondi Chirwa, 21, and Chisomo Nkhambule, 27, with murder after the victim died in Kaning'ina forest.

Deputy Public Relations Officer Cecilia Mfune said the family promised Nkhambule 10 million kwacha to lure Chirwa to the forest under false pretenses about collecting charcoal. The victim worked at St John of God Hospital and owned substantial property, which sparked disputes among relatives after he moved to live with another wife in Mchengautuba.

Investigators recovered the body and motorcycle from the forest after the suspects disposed of evidence. All four confessed to the crime and will face charges in court soon.
