Four family members dead, one critical in Nalanda after suspected poisoning over financial distress

Four people died after a family of five consumed poison in Nalanda district. Soni Kumari, her daughters Deepa and Arika, and son Shivam lost their lives between Friday night and Saturday morning. The victims ranged from 14 to 38 years old. Dharmendra Kumar remains hospitalized in critical condition at VIMS Hospital in Rajgir. One younger son survived because he did not eat the contaminated food.

The family lived in a rented home near Pawapuri Jal Mandir for six months while operating a clothing business. Investigators believe severe financial pressure drove the family to desperation. The family owed approximately 500,000 rupees to a moneylender who demanded repayment at high interest rates. Business losses compounded their mounting debt problems. Police suspect the deaths resulted from suicide under extreme financial duress.

Officers from multiple stations responded to the scene and launched a comprehensive investigation. Medical experts will perform autopsies to determine the exact cause of death. The tragedy shocked the local community and highlighted how debt can devastate vulnerable families.
