Franklin Cudjoe Backs Calls for Removal of Jean Mensa and EC Deputies

Franklin Cudjoe agrees that Electoral Commission leaders should lose their jobs. The IMANI Africa president supports demands for Jean Mensa and her deputies to step down. Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey also face calls for removal from their positions. National Democratic Congress Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah recently asked the three officials to quit. Cudjoe believes these demands make sense given their poor performance.

The policy expert spoke about election problems on Channel One TV Saturday. He blamed the Electoral Commission for hiding information from citizens and wasting public money. Cudjoe said the officials hurt voter rights across Ghana during past elections. People from Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe areas could not vote for parliament members during 2020. The commission failed to protect basic democratic freedoms for these communities.

IMANI Africa already filed complaints against the Electoral Commission with government watchdogs. Cudjoe said his group wants officials held responsible for their mistakes and bad decisions. He refuses to personally sign petitions asking for their removal from office. The organization asked the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to investigate the matter. They want proof that election officials acted unfairly and caused financial problems.

Cudjoe stressed that election troubles hurt more than just political parties. Bad leadership at the Electoral Commission damages public trust and weakens democratic rules. His criticism adds to growing pressure on the three officials before future elections. Many citizens question whether the commission can run fair and honest elections anymore.
