A former legislator, Dr. Freda Prempeh, has urged the Ministry of Defence to compensate individuals injured during a recent military recruitment stampede by enrolling them into the armed forces. Her recommendation follows a confirmed incident that resulted in multiple casualties and six fatalities.
Dr. Prempeh described the recruitment process as chaotic and proposed that future exercises implement better scheduling. She suggested dividing applicants into smaller groups with specific reporting times to ensure a safer and more orderly screening process. She also expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased.
Beyond the immediate tragedy, the former minister emphasized the need for broader job creation through industrialization and vocational training. She stated that strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training programs would provide young people with employable skills and reduce the intense competition for limited positions in the military.
