Free check-ups for Ondangwa as health care reaches out

A complimentary healthcare campaign organized by Duneseven Medical Care Centre has served hundreds of Namibians struggling with access to medical treatment, with the latest two-day program reaching Ondangwa through support from GwaShamba Mall. The Dr Shapumba Free Medical Services initiative, launched in January 2023 by Walvis Bay physician Elifas Shapumba, has expanded into a countrywide effort addressing barriers faced by residents in remote regions and those confronting financial limitations.

The fourth edition of the outreach program provided blood pressure screenings, general physical examinations, wellness guidance and complimentary consultations, particularly benefiting elderly participants. Campaign and project manager Pinehas Nakaziko reported that approximately 50 senior citizens received treatment at no cost while testing covered HIV, blood sugar, hemoglobin and hypertension markers. Shapumba noted that more than 30 cases requiring additional care were identified and forwarded to appropriate facilities, with the program having previously assisted close to 900 people across the Erongo region before targeting 300 northern residents.
