Dr Emmanuel Fundira fights back after losing his job at the National Social Security Authority. The former board chairman got fired on June 23 along with all other board members. Their contracts should have lasted until May 2028. Minister Edgar Moyo gave them the boot early. The minister said he wanted to start fresh at NSSA.
Fundira thinks the firing breaks the law. He sent a letter to the minister asking for answers. The doctor says the government used wrong rules to kick him out. He looked up the laws and found Section 16 of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act. This section explains when board members can lose their jobs.
The law lists specific reasons for firing board members. Someone has to do something wrong or miss meetings to get dismissed. Fundira believes none of these reasons apply to him. The minister should have given seven days notice before firing anyone. The government also needs to follow special steps when removing board members.
Minister Moyo already picked a new board team. Christopher Dube from Bulawayo City Council leads the group. Ruth Sibanda and Florence Taruvinga joined from trade unions. Several business people and government workers filled the other spots. The minister thanked Fundira for helping NSSA during tough times with audit problems.
