Ga Residents Ordered to Keep Mum for 30 Days

The Accra Metro Assembly will start its yearly ban on noise from May 12 through June 12, 2025. During this time, churches must keep their activities inside their buildings without musical instruments. The rules say no one can put speakers outside churches, mosques, or pubs. Street preachers must also stop their work for this period. The Ga Traditional Council also bans funerals.

Only official teams with proper tags can enforce these rules. These teams come from the Assembly, police, and Traditional Councils. Everyone living in the Ga areas must follow these rules for a peaceful Nmaa Dumo season. This ban happens every year as part of Homowo, a festival the Ga people celebrate. People believe loud noises bother the gods and hurt farming success. They see the quiet month as a way to respect the gods who visit the community and help crops grow well.
