Gabon and Huawei ink deal to boost digital sovereignty, innovation

Gabon just handed the keys to its digital future straight to Huawei. This massive deal establishes a framework for the Chinese tech giant to overhaul internet infrastructure across the African nation. Minister Mark-Alexandre Doumba supervised the agreement alongside Wang Lei from the Central Africa division. President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema gave his blessing to the partnership.

A joint committee will select specific national projects to prioritize immediately. The government wants local startups involved to boost innovation within domestic borders. Officials claim this arrangement guarantees skills transfer to maintain digital sovereignty.

Plans involve expanding the Connected Schools scheme while launching fresh high-tech ventures. Initiatives starting next year aim to assist small businesses in creating a modern ecosystem. The administration hopes this move positions the country as a regional leader for technology.
