Chief Justice Hassan B Jallow swore in Justice Adenike Coker as a brand new High Court Judge on Wednesday. She comes from Lagos State in Nigeria and brings plenty of experience to her position. Justice Amina Saho-Ceesay, who leads the Gambia Judges Association, welcomed her warmly to the High Court bench. She expressed confidence that Justice Coker would make great contributions and uphold justice values.
The new judge earned her Master of Laws degree from Kings College in London. She is a skilled negotiator and mediator with strong leadership abilities. Justice Coker joined the Lagos State Judiciary in May 2001 and has worked across many different court divisions. These included lands, family and probate, commercial, criminal, general, and civil sections in both Lagos and Ikeja.
Justice Coker belongs to several important legal groups, both locally and internationally. She actively participates in the International Bar Association Judges Forum and the National and International Association of Women Judges. Her professional memberships extend beyond legal organizations. She also participates in Zonta International, the International Women's Society, and the Women in Business networks.
