Gambia Media Bootcamp Unleashes AI Fact Check Heroes

University of Gambia journalism school finished a four-day training session with UNESCO partners on Friday. The workshop taught media educators how to add new topics to their classes at GAFNA Hall from May 27 to 30. Teachers learned about fact-checking, hate speech, disability coverage and artificial intelligence reporting. Professor Melchizedek Onobe said journalists must tell the truth without fear but stay humble when sharing news. Fatou Njie from Gambia's UNESCO office told participants that media shows what society values most.

Students and professors from different schools attended sessions on ethics and gender issues. Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu announced plans to test the new curriculum at University of Gambia first. Other colleges across the country will adopt the program after the trial period ends successfully. The journalism school wants to create reporters who work fairly and help disabled people tell their stories. Artificial intelligence training will prepare students for technology changes in news reporting.
