Gambia Minister Wows With Massive Rural Road Blitz

Transport Minister Ebrima Sillah visited construction sites across rural Gambia during his nationwide road inspection tour. The minister checked progress on major highway projects that will connect farming communities to main roads. His team spent two days examining work on different road sections covering more than 170 kilometers. Construction crews have completed earthwork and started building the base layers for most roads. These projects mark the first time proper paved roads reach remote villages since independence.

Day three took Sillah through Upper River Region where contractors work on 69 kilometers of new highways. Workers have finished concrete pavement on half the Basse Manneh Kunda route and completed all drainage systems. Other roads show varying completion rates from 16 percent to 94 percent depending on their length and complexity. The Sutukoba to Chamoi Bunda section spans 27 kilometers and crews have cleared 25 percent of the roadway. Teams operate in shifts to finish the four-year project ahead of schedule.

Kiang Kabada Road Project received attention during day four as crews build 102 kilometers across twelve separate sections. Chinese company Long Jin Construction handles the work with Gambian firm GAMECS providing engineering oversight. Villages that previously took full days to reach major highways can access them within one hour using partially completed roads. Solar streetlights will illuminate the finished highways bringing modern infrastructure to agricultural areas. Community leaders signed legal documents supporting road construction through their settlements after seeing the economic benefits.
