Gambia secures duty-free access for groundnut and cashew exports to China

China granted duty-free market access to Gambian groundnut and cashew products through newly established trade protocols. The Gambia Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment announced this development on Monday. Officials finalized the agreement during the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators, focusing on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation implementation strategies held in June 2025.

The ministerial gathering coincided with the fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. Participants reviewed advancement on the nine-point action plan from FOCAC while enhancing economic partnerships between African nations and China. Gambian representatives secured protocols granting duty-free and quota-free access through China's Preferential Market Access Scheme.

The ministry mandated that exporters complete registration procedures with the Gambia Food Safety and Quality Authority before shipping products. Economic operators planning to export groundnuts and cashews must visit FSQA offices for mandatory registration processes. Government officials anticipate the trade agreement will create fresh commercial opportunities for domestic producers and expand the country's export capacity.
