Gambian Snared In Drug Case Pays Big Fine Or Faces Jail

A man must pay cash or face jail time after breaking drug laws. At the Banjul court, Ibra Gaye accepted blame for having illegal drugs. The court asked him to pay D35,000 or spend two years behind bars. He agreed with all claims made against him during the hearing. Magistrate Thomasi ran the court session, during which Gaye admitted guilt.

The Drug Control Act of 2003 lists these actions as crimes. Police found strong proof connecting Gaye to the drugs. The court heard how Gaye never argued against any facts presented. Magistrate Thomasi decided the case based on what Gaye said himself. The legal team showed clear evidence that helped the judge make a fast decision.
