Gamecocks Snap Drought With Nailbiting Win

Chicken Inn defeated Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-0 at home for their first victory at Luveve Stadium this season. Defender Mpumelelo Bhebhe scored the winning goal four minutes after halftime from close range. Coach Joey Antipas celebrated the breakthrough result that lifted his team to 16 points. The Gamecocks had struggled at their home ground before this crucial win. Antipas said his players needed to change their luck at the difficult venue.

The first half produced little excitement with both teams creating few chances. Ngezi controlled early play but failed to score from two corner kicks within five minutes. McDonald Eddisone missed a header that sailed over the crossbar during their best opportunity. Chicken Inn forced one decent shot through George Majika but his effort missed the target narrowly. The visitors managed their first shot on goal through Malvin Gaki in the 36th minute.

Bhebhe broke the deadlock early in the second half when he tapped home from close distance. The visiting defense could not clear the danger properly and allowed the easy finish. Ngezi pressed for an equalizer throughout the remaining time but could not find the back of the net. Ashwin Karengesha came closest with a volley that goalkeeper Donovan Bernard saved well. Chicken Inn held firm to secure their vital three points at home.
