Garissa chiefs demand tuk tuks, cite windy skirts

Muslim female chiefs from Garissa requested government assistance with transportation during a security forum led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. The officials explained that religious guidelines prevent them from using motorbikes, creating workplace accessibility problems. Public transport delays affect their ability to respond quickly to emergencies within their jurisdictions. They asked authorities to provide three-wheeled vehicles or small cars as alternative transportation methods.

Murkomen addressed regional security developments, emphasizing the connections between security and economic progress. Cross-border threats from Somalia have decreased through coordinated efforts between security agencies and local residents. The cabinet secretary mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects and refugee support programs. Governor Nathif Jama and multiple security leaders participated in the discussion alongside parliamentary representatives.
