Police found that factory workers killed a 19-year-old employee at Greenland Garments last Saturday. Hridoy Hossain worked as a mechanic at the clothing factory located on Kashimpur Road. Factory staff accused him of stealing and tied his hands behind his back. Security cameras showed several people taking him to a room early Saturday morning. He died from severe injuries after being beaten.
Officers arrested Hasan Mahmud Mithun for the suspected murder. Police say factory managers first claimed Hridoy fell into a drain and hurt himself. Video evidence proved workers planned to kill the young man from Tangail district. An ambulance came to the factory around 10 am Saturday and left seven minutes later. Hospital records confirm doctors received his dead body.
Hundreds of angry workers blocked roads and demanded justice for Hridoy on Sunday. Protesters threw rocks at the Greenland factory building. Police and army soldiers arrived to stop the violence. Factory owners closed the business on Monday because of the unrest. Workers from nearby clothing companies joined the demonstrations.
Hridoy had visible cuts and bruises on his face, neck, arms, and legs. Factory bosses may have tried to hide the crime by sending his body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. The 19-year-old came from Ghatail area and worked in the dyeing section. Konabari Police Station continues investigating the case. The death sparked outrage across the garment industry community.
