Gauteng communities urged to help fight crime with SAPS

Gauteng law enforcement officials have called on residents to maintain cooperation with authorities following a weeklong Anti-Gang Unit campaign that produced 15 arrests and substantial seizures beginning November 3, 2025. Operations across Westbury, Reiger Park, Mapetla, Boksburg and central Johannesburg targeted individuals connected to unlicensed weapons possession, ammunition violations, narcotic offenses and interference with police work. Officers confiscated a Glock 19 pistol with ammunition, 423 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 218 grams of methcathinone, 345 mandrax tablets and currency during the enforcement sweep.

Provincial authorities credited community intelligence for enabling multiple apprehensions, including three suspects linked to a mass shooting incident in Westbury. Residents received encouragement to continue submitting anonymous crime tips through the national hotline at 08600 10111. The detained individuals awaited court appearances while police emphasized that sustained partnerships between civilians and officers remain essential for dismantling organized criminal networks affecting vulnerable neighborhoods.
