George Charamba defends Mutodi’s removal from key role

Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba has supported Parliament’s decision to remove Bikita South MP Energy Mutodi as Chair of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance, and Economic Development. Charamba argued the move protected Parliament’s integrity and the principle of separation of powers.

Mutodi was dismissed after accusing Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga of soliciting bribes from government contractors. In a post on X under the name Dhonzamanzi007, Charamba praised the Speaker of Parliament for taking swift action. He also criticized an “opposition ethos” within some parts of the ruling party, claiming that certain members hoped to advance opposition agendas through Zanu PF.

Mutodi had previously accused Guvamatanga of demanding kickbacks and illicitly amassing wealth, but later withdrew the allegations and issued an apology.
