Ghana’s brain trust ready, VP urges CSIR to lead boldly

Vice President Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang stated Ghana has the domestic expertise to fix its biggest problems. She made the remarks during a visit to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, calling it the nation's top research body. She emphasized the need for practical solutions in areas like farming, health, and climate change, urging deeper collaboration with the government.

She praised the CSIR's historical work and encouraged its researchers to be more vocal and visible. The Vice President asked them to engage more with policymaking and public exhibitions. The CSIR team thanked the government for support, specifically mentioning the Ghana Research Fund and a partnership with the World Food Programme. They also highlighted ongoing issues with having enough staff and adequate facilities.
