Ghana advances Keta Port, Ho Airport revival

So apparently Ghana's whole eastern coastline is getting a glow-up, and the guy dropping all the details is Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Transport Minister, who showed up at President Mahama's Citizens' Engagement thing in Ho and just started listing receipts. The big one: EPA already signed off on the environmental permit back in April, confirming the Keta Port site can actually handle West African maritime trade without wrecking the ecosystem. The admin building for the port is already 80 percent done, targeting January 2027 for full completion, and government is out there courting private investors for a public-private partnership setup. Nikpe basically name-dropped the Tema Port turnaround as proof Mahama knows how to land the right investors, and the finished Keta site is supposed to bring container terminals, a shipyard for ship repairs, and proper road links tying into the national network.

Then it's Ho Airport's turn for a comeback arc after basically rotting for eight years. They already got the lights back on with a new transformer, courtesy of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. Mahama wants the place turned into a year-round aviation hub, which apparently means building out a full Aviation Academy for pilots, engineers, and technicians, with a private investor from the Volta Region reportedly teaming up with Ghana Airports Company Limited to make it happen. Hangars for private jets, an MRO center for regional aircraft servicing, and even a potential air taxi charter service are all on the table too.

Volta Lake safety is getting attention as well, with a brand new Transport Safety Office set up at Kpando Torkor and a rescue boat stationed there for emergencies. Meanwhile DVLA just opened a Vakpo branch and has a Hohoe office coming soon.
