Ghana begins huge military buildup with 12,000 new recruits

Ghana will commence military recruitment by September, according to Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah. The announcement followed an eleven-hour inspection at 1 Garrison on Saturday. Government officials plan to add 12,000 new soldiers between 2025 and 2028. This expansion aims to strengthen national security capabilities across the country.

Dr. Boamah posted the recruitment details on his Facebook account after completing his facility visit. Merit will determine selection rather than financial payments from candidates. The minister warned potential applicants about corruption schemes targeting desperate job seekers. He praised current military personnel for their professional standards and commitment to duty.

The ministry prioritizes welfare improvements for existing and future armed forces members. Dr. Boamah expressed satisfaction with troop interactions during his extended base visit. The recruitment drive represents a significant investment in Ghana's defense infrastructure. Officials expect the enlarged military to better serve national security interests and regional stability requirements.
