Catholic Church leaders sat down with Ghana's top security boss to talk about keeping peace across the country. The big meeting happened on Wednesday when bishops visited Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak at his office in Accra. Church officials wanted to team up with the government to stop trouble before it starts and keep Ghana calm. The minister told the religious leaders they do great work helping the nation grow stronger. He pushed them to get other churches and mosques involved in the peace mission.
Muntaka promised the Catholic Church that his ministry will keep supporting their charity work through Caritas Ghana. The government wants to work closely with all religious groups to protect the safety that Ghana enjoys right now. Officials from both sides agreed that different people must learn to live together without fighting. The minister said the church's peace efforts will help guard against violence and conflict. He believes religious leaders can reach people in ways that politicians cannot.
Rev. Fr. Michael Quaicoo led the Catholic delegation and runs the church's justice and peace programs. He told the minister about their major project called the Sahel Peace Initiative that works across the region. The program tries to fix the real problems that cause wars and fighting between communities. Quaicoo said the Catholic Church will partner with government agencies and other groups to make the peace plan work. Church leaders want to build bridges between different communities through talking and working together.
