Ghana ranks 61st in IMD 2025 World Competitiveness Report with mixed performance

Ghana moved up four spots to rank 61st among 69 countries in a global business competition study. The International Institute for Management Development released its 2025 World Competitiveness Ranking on Wednesday. Officials from the Management Development and Productivity Institute announced the results in Accra. The study measures how well governments create conditions for long-term business success. Ghana improved from its 65th place finish in 2024.

The ranking examines four main areas of government policy and business conditions. Economic performance earned Ghana a 66th place ranking among all countries studied. Infrastructure and government efficiency both received 49th place ratings. Business efficiency scored lowest at 67th place across the nations examined. The study helps countries identify where they need to make improvements.

Ghana finished third among six African nations that participated in the competition. Kenya led all African countries with Botswana taking second place regionally. Switzerland topped the global rankings ahead of Singapore and Hong Kong. Denmark and Qatar also finished among the top performers worldwide. Canada, Germany and Luxembourg rounded out the top 20 countries.

Researchers found several areas where Ghana performs well compared to other nations. The country showed strength in economic growth per person and public finances. Energy infrastructure and cost of capital also received positive ratings. However, Ghana scored poorly on education spending and employment measures. High inflation and weak economic growth continue to challenge the West African nation.
