Ghana will stop booking private accommodations for its athletic squads and instead construct dedicated training complexes, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams said. The Black Stars and Black Queens have traditionally stayed at commercial lodging before competitions, while other squads used the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Adams told Woezor TV that Borteyman, which served as a venue during the 2023 African Games, will be upgraded with lodging and practice grounds for national squads. Winneba Sports College will undergo extensive improvements to reach contemporary standards. The minister said President Mahama's plan includes transforming Borteyman into a quality facility comparable to a three-star establishment suitable for team preparation. Building several locations will ease pressure on current sites and eliminate lodging expenses, Adams explained.
The government also intends to work with the Ghana Football Association to improve the Ghana Soccer of Excellence, providing more locations for hosting and preparing national squads. Adams emphasized that having Winneba, Borteyman, and the enhanced Ghanaman center will give officials multiple choices and end reliance on commercial hotels.
