Ghanaians in Uproar Over Chief Justice Suspension

Former Deputy Attorney-General Diana Asonaba Dapaah warns that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo's suspension should worry all Ghanaians. She claims officials lowered standards to establish the case against the Chief Justice. Speaking on JoyNews' NewsFile on April 26, Dapaah said the petitions fall short of the proper legal threshold.

President Mahama decided Tuesday that there is enough evidence in three petitions against Torkonoo. After talking with the Council of State, he formed a committee to investigate these claims, following Article 146 rules. The news came through a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu at the Presidency on April 22. Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang heads this committee, which includes members from law, military, academia, and public service backgrounds.
