A 41-year-old man, Gift Mawodza, was admitted to All Souls Mission Hospital after a severe electric shock received while allegedly attempting to vandalize a Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company transformer near the facility. The incident resulted in his hospitalization at the same institution that his actions sought to deprive of power. He remains under police guard while receiving treatment.
Police spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri confirmed the arrest, noting that officers were alerted to his condition. She reiterated that vandalism of public utility infrastructure carries a mandatory ten-year prison sentence.
Mawodza now faces formal charges under the Electricity Act. His two alleged accomplices, Simbarashe Tungamirai and Paiben Muparo, reportedly fled the scene and avoided injury.
