Gigabyte X870i Aorus Pro Ice revamps memory slots for AMD Zen 6 DDR5 support

GIGABYTE prepares its 800-series motherboards for AMD's upcoming Zen 6 processors through revised memory configurations. The company released version 1.1 of the X870i AORUS PRO ICE motherboard featuring AB memory slots instead of the original A1B1 setup. This modification follows MSI's similar changes to B850 series boards that shifted from A1B1 to A2B2 configurations. The updated BIOS cannot support previous motherboard versions due to fundamental design differences. YouTube channel Tin Học Ngôi Sao documented these configuration changes.

AMD's Zen 6 architecture features dual integrated memory controllers rather than single units found in previous generations. The processors require A2B2 memory configurations for optimal performance during initial launch periods. Each memory controller supports one DIMM per channel arrangements that enhance signal integrity and stability at higher frequencies. AMD may provide A1B1 configuration support after launch. Zen 6 represents the first Ryzen series with dual CCDs and dual I/O dies while breaking the eight-core barrier with twelve cores per CCD.
