Global PC builders howl as RAM DDR4 DDR5 GDDR6 prices soar 45 percent

Computer memory costs are skyrocketing across the board. DDR4 memory chips jumped 45 percent during the third quarter of 2025. Graphics card memory called GDDR6 shot up 33 percent during the same period. Older types like DDR3 and newer DDR5 chips also saw their prices climb higher. The price surge hits everything from home computers to powerful server machines.

Memory makers are pulling the plug on DDR4 production lines. These companies have sent official notices telling customers that DDR4 manufacturing will stop soon. Businesses and computer builders are rushing to buy up whatever DDR4 stock remains available. The mad scramble for leftover supplies pushes prices through the roof. DDR4 still powers millions of computers and servers around the world.

Factory workers are switching their production focus to newer memory types. DDR5 and the brand new GDDR7 standard are taking over assembly lines everywhere. These cutting-edge memory formats cost more to make since the technology remains fairly new. Manufacturers are struggling to balance customer demand with their ability to produce enough chips. The industry changeover creates wild price swings that affect computer buyers everywhere.
