People across Gokwe are excited about the Independence Day bash and Uhuru Cup, which will soon be held at Nembudziya's open grounds. Everyone involved promises a fun celebration that will showcase the best parts of their district and rich heritage. The big party will move to Gokwe in the Midlands Province because President Mnangagwa wants national events spread around different parts of Zimbabwe. This matches his push for spreading power from the center to local areas.
The District Development Co-ordinator, Martin Musakanda, told reporters about all the work happening at the main location. His teams have already finished about 75 percent of the football field and running track upgrades. Workers made serious progress on many buildings needed for the celebration. The brick walls for changing rooms reached 60 percent, giving players and performers good places to prepare before events.
Bathroom facilities continue to move forward, with five different units under construction. Ground crews dug out 30 percent of the terraces where people will sit to watch everything. Fence installation is 35 percent complete, and VIP parking areas are half finished. Musakanda stressed that they want to build something that works great for the celebration but also helps the community for years afterward.
National Assembly member for Gokwe-Sesame Constituency Madron Matiza expects around 100,000 visitors from both North and South Gokwe areas. He expressed joy about hosting such an important event for the first time. Matiza wants visitors to see all the amazing resources in Gokwe like minerals and wildlife. He emphasized how the area played a key role in fighting for the country's freedom.
Chief Chireya from Gokwe North thanked President Mnangagwa for choosing their region to host these celebrations. He believes this event will bring major improvements to the entire area. Despite some road fix-up projects running behind schedule, he stays hopeful about how the celebration will help their community grow stronger and better.
Many building projects continue around Gokwe ahead of the big day. Nembudziya High School sees a senior science lab going up with outer walls reaching window height already. Workers finished concrete jobs for smaller labs and kept fixing up classrooms and office buildings. Nyamuroro High School almost finished several new buildings as part of the preparations.
The people of Gokwe want to make history with these national celebrations. They hope the big event will make government departments and development groups notice the challenges local communities face every day. President Mnangagwa keeps saying the government must pay attention to development issues in districts chosen to host national celebration events.
