Gold Mine Gives Women Youth a Golden Ticket

A gold mine in Shurugwi gives mining claims to women and young people for free. Tebekwe Mine helps local families earn money from gold mining activities. Dr Smelly Dube runs the operation through her company Mutovu Investments. The mine produces five kilograms of gold each month and wants to reach seven kilograms soon. Workers deliver all gold to the government refinery.

Parliamentary members visited the mine over the weekend to check on community programs. Senator Anna Shiri led the group that toured mining areas and spoke with local people. She praised the mine for helping women and disabled people find work. Chief Nhema said the program helps families but wants other companies to do the same thing. The mine employs 410 workers and most are women and young adults.

Abigail Churu became a widow and uses her mining claim money to pay school fees for her children. Martin Sibanda said young people feel proud when they earn money from mining work. The company wants to buy new equipment to increase gold production. Government policies under President Mnangagwa make it easier for local people to start mining businesses.
