Government approves dualling of Muthaiga-Kiambu road

The government authorized the expansion of the 23.5-kilometre Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi road. This project aims to reduce severe traffic congestion between Nairobi and Kiambu counties. The route, often called Kiambu Road, currently serves areas like Muthaiga, Runda, and Kiambu Town.

The highway will be widened from two lanes into a four-lane dual carriageway featuring bypasses, loops, and service roads. Planners will also incorporate facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, including non-motorised transport lanes and six footbridges.

The Kenya National Highways Authority will manage the project using an Engineer-Procure-Construct contract. The scope additionally covers adjoining spurs, such as Ridgeways Road and UN Avenue through Runda.
