The government has commissioned a 1.2 million dollar gold milling plant in Zvishavane to support artisanal miners, boost gold output, and create jobs. The facility, funded by Sabi Gold Mine, aligns with national efforts to promote inclusive economic growth and expand local participation in the mining sector.
Artisanal miners welcomed the project, stating that it would transform their operations and enhance the community's livelihoods. Sabi Gold Mine board chairperson Oliver Mtasa said the initiative aims to empower women and youth by providing them with the tools to join the formal mining economy, reflecting the government’s goal of building a mining-led upper-middle-income society by 2030.
Local officials praised the public-private partnership as a model for sustainable development. Zvishavane-Runde legislator Freddy Moyo said it shows investor confidence in the government’s re-engagement policies. Midlands provincial minister Owen Ncube added that such projects help ensure mining benefits last beyond the life of a mine, supporting long-term community development.
