A Grade 4 boy in Victoria Falls, Nyasha Rukobo, died by suicide following a dispute with his grandmother over a lunch box. His father, Adore Rukobo, said the boy became upset after his younger brother lost the lunch box, which Nyasha had refused to lend. Nyasha reportedly struck his brother, and when his grandmother stepped in, he left the house in anger. He was later found hanging from a Jatropha tree.
The family buried Nyasha in Rukovo Village, Mberengwa, following local customs for deaths by suicide. The service took place outside the homestead with doors locked, and mourners did not bathe during the period. His father described Nyasha as a brilliant student and top of his class. The incident has left the family heartbroken.
