Grade R Spots Vanishing Fast Parents Fret

Western Cape Education Department tells parents they can check school application results today. Families who applied for Grade R, Grade 1 or Grade 8 spots can see if their children got accepted. The results cover placements for the 2026 school year across the province. Parents receive notifications about which schools accepted their applications. Officials say this marks an important step for thousands of families.

Parents who receive acceptance letters must respond quickly to secure their spots. They have until June 17 to accept or reject each school offer. Kerry Mauchline from the education department warns parents against holding multiple offers without deciding. She says this blocks other families from getting those same school places. Parents must pick one school and release the others.

The computer system automatically picks the top school choice if parents miss the deadline. All other offers disappear when the system makes this automatic selection. Schools can offer those spots to different families who applied. Officials want every child placed as fast as possible during this stressful time. The process helps reduce waiting periods for all applicants.

More acceptance letters go out as families make their final decisions. Parents should not worry if they receive no offers during the first round. Empty spots open up when other families decline or accept different schools. The online system shows all application results and updates. Families can log into the WCED website to track their status.
