Gretsch has partnered with Abbey Road Studios to produce the RS201 Studiomatic, a limited edition hollow-body guitar incorporating technology derived from the studio's 1950s-era RS 97 Rumble Filter. The built-in circuit removes low-frequency vibrations while maintaining tonal warmth, marking the first instance of Abbey Road assigning its RS numbering system to a musical instrument rather than recording equipment.
The guitar features Filter'Tron pickups that deliver both vintage and contemporary sounds, with onboard controls allowing players to eliminate unwanted bass frequencies for recording-ready output. According to FMIC Chief Product Officer Max Gutnik, the collaboration between both organizations focused on creating an instrument optimized for studio environments through responsive performance and sonic versatility.
Abbey Road Studios General Manager Jeremy Huffelmann emphasized that the RS 201 designation recognizes the technical innovation within the design, connecting the guitar to the facility's history of groundbreaking audio technologies. The instrument retails for 1,249 pounds including VAT or 1,499 euros and is currently available for purchase.
